Dear LifeWave Members,

My passion is in finding ways to live the healthiest, happiest, longest life possible – and in sharing what I learn. So what have I learned? That there is no one solution to health. For example, a program such as SP6 Complete is only effective if you are making the right diet and exercise choices while you are on it. Living healthy is a way of life, a series of choices we make for our health every day.

That’s why it makes me sad to think about the choices our children are presented with through school vending machines. I recently learned that a major soft drink manufacturer will be helping kids lead a healthier lifestyle by replacing sugary soft drinks in vending machines with “healthier” beverage choices – among them artificially sweetened diet drinks.

Of course, overconsumption of sugar is a major issue. Excessive sugar intake has been linked to a multitude of health problems including obesity, depression and a number of diseases (including cancer). The average American consumes an astonishing 160 pounds of sugar per year! And the problem isn’t limited to the United States. Obesity has rapidly increased around the world in the last few decades, due in no small part to the prevalence of sugar hidden in all types of processed foods.

I certainly agree that reducing sugar and providing healthier alternatives to our children is a step in the right direction. But, chemically produced artificial sweeteners are not a healthy alternative! Let’s give children the opportunity to start making the right choices for their health.

Then, let’s start paying attention to all the choices we are making for health in our own lives.

Sincerely,
Suzanne Somers
